This past year I began to write poetry.
Friendship
We drive to the mountains,
dear friend,
to eat by the stream
then hike amidst asters and aspen
in meadows the greenest green.
The sound of water and
trees in motion
softens who we are
as the day shapes into
a leisurely smile
light and lyrical and
enchanting.

Hummingbird
In the dawn light
a hummingbird
flies up to me,
so close my hands
could cup it.
My tiny friend dances,
dances in the garden--
a magician of joy

Spring
As I grow old
surging new life
calls out to me--
go gently,
be strong,
say the daffodils.
dance for joy!
whirrs the hummingbird.
celebrate!
exclaim the
mountain streams
cascading with snow melt.
rejoice! rejoice!
sings all nature.
